Editorial Policy

The JOURNAL OF TROPICAL COLEOPTEROLOGY (ISSN on-line 2718-9740; ISSN Print 2719-1486) is a bi-annual refereed journal, open to all researchers, scientists, teachers, graduate students, and beginning researchers who wish to publish their research paper related to beetles in a peer-reviewed journal. This journal is the premier journal in the Philippines that focuses on beetle research and conservation. The quality of articles published in this journal is our top priority.

The primary consideration for publication in the JOURNAL OF TROPICAL COLEOPTEROLOGY is its contribution in providing new knowledge in tropical coleopterology, discovery of new species, ecology, taxonomy, and conservation leading to the betterment of human lives and the society as a whole. The action of both the authors and reviewers is very critical in maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of the review process. The authors’ role is to prepare the manuscript to be evaluated by our external evaluators who are experts in their fields. The acceptance of the paper will be deliberated by the Editorial Board who will consider the significance of the paper and the comments and suggestions of the external reviewers.

Policy on Handling Complaints
If the JOURNAL OF TROPICAL COLEOPTEROLOGY receives a formal complaint that a contribution infringes copyright or other intellectual property rights, the Editorial Board will investigate the complaint. The Editorial Board will ONLY entertain complaint supported with a FORMAL LETTER via courier or an email address to the Editor-In-Chief. Any other form of complaints will not be entertained. If formal complaint is done, the Editorial Board will request both parties to submit substantial evidences which will then be weighed by the Editorial Board as basis for retraction or withdrawal of the manuscript.

Policy on copyright transfer
A Transfer of Copyright Form must be signed by all authors in the manuscript. The copyright transfer signifies that the Author/s acknowledge that the Editorial Board of the JTC will have the right to print, create derivative works, and publish the work throughout the world. Furthermore, it is very important for the author to warrant and represent that the manuscript does not violate any proprietary or personal rights of others including, without limitation, any copyrights or privacy rights. The research is factually accurate and contains no libelous or otherwise unlawful matter. Lastly, the author substantially participated in the creation of the Work and that it represents his/her original work sufficient to claim authorship.

It is very important that the author will confirm that the article has not been published elsewhere, nor is it under consideration by any other publisher.

Policy on conflict of interest
The Editorial Board will make every attempt to ensure that fair, equitable, and non-biased procedures are utilized in all peer review proceedings. Conflicts stemming from social, political or business affiliations will be avoided. Individuals involved especially in the peer review process shall be impartial peers and do not have conflict of interest with the research being reviewed. Hence, we strongly encourage all authors to submit at least 3 possible reviewers who could make an objective review of the manuscript. When the author/s disclosed that no future conflict of interest of his/her manuscript by signing the Transfer of Copyright Form, the JOURNAL OF TROPICAL COLEOPTEROLOGY shall publish the paper.

Journal Fee and Funding policy
There is NO submission and publication fee for the journal. We are happy to announce that the JOURNAL OF TROPICAL COLEOPTEROLOGY will remain FREE for all authors and researchers worldwide. The funding for the production of the JOURNAL OF TROPICAL COLEOPTEROLOGY is from the donations of the Philippine Coleopterological Network (PhilColNet) and the annual budget of the Research and Publication Center Office of the University of Mindanao.

Manuscript Length
Manuscripts should not exceed 12 pages, A4 size paper, excluding tables and figures.

Assignment of article serial number
All manuscripts accepted for review process will be assigned with a unique serial number. This serial number is unique for the JOURNAL OF TROPICAL COLEOPTEROLOGY and must be used in all future correspondence with the submitting author and editor.

Submission Guidelines
1. The manuscript has not been submitted or previously published to ANY journal.
2. All submission must be sent to the editor-in-chief using the word template of the JTC. Figures and tables must be sent as a separate attachment with proper captions. All other technical guidelines must prescribe to the Guide to Authors.
3. All references are valid and traceable. Never use grey literature like unpublished thesis, dissertations, or blog.

Open Access Statement
JOURNAL OF TROPICAL COLEOPTEROLOGY publishes open access journal-articles which are available on the internet to all users immediately upon publication. Provided that the author and the journal are properly recognized, readers are free to use the articles for non-commercial purposes. As open access journal, we are giving free access to the articles for all users worldwide, authors retain copyright to their work, increased visibility and readership, rapid but credible and reliable publication, and no spatial constraints.

The JOURNAL OF TROPICAL COLEOPTEROLOGY adopted creative commons CC-BY license which allows others to distribute or adapt the scientific articles published in the journal provided that the users will give due credit for the original creation.

Statement of Privacy
The names of the authors and their institutional address and contact details will be exclusively used for this journal only and will not be used for other purposes or other parties.
